Junior Software Developer Danavation

Name & Title:  Leo Tran, Junior Software Developer

Describe yourself in three words:

Calm, collective, and completionist.

Favourite song, why?

Somebody to Love by Queen, because it was the first song I heard that introduced me to the band. Since then, Queen has been my favourite.

Favourite movie, why?

Tucker & Dale vs Evil, because it reminds me of the first time my friends and I went to a cottage except without all the evil and bad things happening. It’s also a pretty entertaining movie.

Favourite book, why?

“Intelligent Investor” is by far my favourite book as it taught me discipline, patience, and the willingness to learn new things. It also helped me develop my foundations for investing.

Favourite brand, why?

A&W, because their root beer is my favourite beverage. It’s not the healthiest but it’s what introduced me to carbonated drinks.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Danavation?

The ongoing challenges and opportunity to grow and learn along with the support to get through difficult tasks.

Quote to live by:

Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.

Fun fact about you:

I am bad with directions. Sometimes I get lost, other times I just happen to get to where I’m needed.

If you were a superhero, what would be your superpower?

The ability to pour liquid from one container into another from any distance with perfect accuracy. Would let me do some neat party tricks.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

Achieving a 20% growth in my TFSA in less than a year. I started investing this year and so far it’s going well. It’s also nice to see that I’m being rewarded for my efforts.

Your favourite tradition in your household?

Christmas, we don’t usually celebrate holidays but this is the only one we don’t pass. It’s nice to gather and see each other after a while since as the years go by it becomes more and more difficult to see each other.

Guilty pleasure:

One is ordering food with UberEats! I should be cooking my meals and eating healthier but sometimes I can’t resist ordering online especially when there are deals. The second is when I’m playing competitive games with my friends because it feels good to win and have bragging rights for the next few minutes.

Three travel destinations that are on your bucket list:

Germany, France, and Greece. Mainly to sightsee but also to visit historical sights and experience their culture.

Which actor/actress would play you in a movie about your life?

Easy, Dwayne Johnson, because he practically plays a role in any movie.

What do you think is the greatest invention of all time?

The turing machine because it cracked the Enigma code which the Germans used during World War 2 and allowed the allies to win the war. It is also considered one of the largest contributions to computer science.

How many languages can you speak?

Only one, take a guess on which one it is.

You’re hosting a dinner party. Eight people are seated at your table. Living or dead, who would you invite?

Freddie Mercury – Fan of his music, would love to meet him once.
Terry Crews – One of the funniest actors in the world.
Winston Churchill – One of the key individuals during World War 2 and kept Britain fighting.
Frank Sinatra – One of the greatest musicians in the world and I want to see him sing with Freddie and Louis.
Louis Armstrong – Same as Frank.
Judith Love Cohen – Saved Apollo 13.
Alan Turing – Inventor of the turing machine.
Warren Buffett – One of the greatest investors alive.

Three things you cannot live without?

Coffee – For when I need to focus
Tea – For when I want to relax
Family – Because there’s nothing stronger than family

Anything else interesting about you that you would like to share:

I enjoy playing strategy games such as Company of Heroes 2, Age of Empires 2, Stellaris and Civilization, even though I might not be good at them. I am also pretty competitive when it comes to gaming and usually put in too much effort. You know I’m about to get serious when I sit up instead of slouch.
